How to get to Santa María del Tule?

Santa María del Tule is a small town located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. It is famous for housing the Tule Tree, believed to be the thickest tree in the world and one of the oldest living things. This tree is an ahuehuete (Mexican cypress) with a circumference of approximately 42 meters and is estimated to be more than 2,000 years old.

Location: Santa María del Tule is located about 10 kilometers east of the city of Oaxaca de Juárez, the capital of the state of Oaxaca, in Mexico. It is easily accessible by car from Oaxaca, and public transportation is also available.

When is it best season to go? The climate in Santa María del Tule is generally warm and dry for much of the year, with a rainy season from June to September. The best time to visit depends on your personal preferences. However, many visitors prefer to go during the dry season, which runs from November to May, to avoid the rains and enjoy more comfortable conditions for exploring the area and taking photographs of the Tule Tree.

How to get to Santa María del Tule on your own?

 

To get to Santa María del Tule we recommend 2 options:

1.-Bus:   You take the bus (red and white car) that says El Tule at the Estadio Eduardo Vasconcelos baseball stadium on Human Rights Avenue. It costs 15 pesos and takes approximately 20 minutes to arrive.

2.- Go by bicycle: You will take the railway cycle path 20km straight until you reach the town of Santa Maria del Tule, it is an easy journey, but it takes around 2 hours to arrive and another 2 hours to return.
